Before the regular presentations began, Dick Stanley told us that the Stanley Foundation is re-naming the Stanley Explorer program. Hence forward it will be known as the "Catherine Miller Explorer Award." Catherine, who was recently named an honorary Paul Harris Fellow, was, according to Dick Stanley, a global educator long before the term was in common currency.
Two recipients of the Stanley Explorer Awards provided information on their educational trips taken last summer. Rachelle Schneider, an ESL teacher at Madison Elementary School visited Africa. Rachelle told us about the school she taught in and showed us a LOT of slides. Kathy Haltmeyer, a special education teacher at MHS studied in Italy. She showed photos of villas outside Rome and the morphology of the Tiber River.

March 24 Troy Dannen, Executive Director of the Iowa High School Girl's Athletic Union will provide an update on the role of the Union and an update on Girls' activities in the State of Iowa
March 31 Judy Jeffrey, Director of the Iowa Department of Education will provide an update on educational issues in the State of Iowa.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Melanie Alexander told the club membership that nomination forms are on the tables for Vocational Awareness Award, Citizen of the Year Award, and Robert L. Roach Award. If you have somebody in mind who is worthy of any of these awards, please submit your nomination.
Sharon Gibson-Ellis asked club members to complete one of the membership surveys which were on the tables.
Jane Daufeldt asked members to vote for the SILO tax on Tuesday.
HAPPY NEWS
Harvey ALlbee, Jr., was not too happy about Iowa-Illinois sports outcomes.
Norm Smith was thrilled about Iow-Illinois sports outcomes. Mostly, he was happy that Harvey paid up in front of witnesses.
Lum was pretty happy about Kosovo independence.
Gary Wieskamp was ticked about his grandchildren placing so well in state-wide swimming competitions.

Today's Rotary Moment -In times of crisis, people often rush to remedy the wrong things. One delegate to the 1933 Boston Convention asked Ches Perry, Chairman of the first Rotary Convention in 1910, if the current condition of the depression meant Rotary should temporarily soften some of its ideals. Such a notion did not go over well with Perry, who had helped frame many of those ideals. "Today the world suffers - not because of an abundance of ideals, but because of a lack of ideals in those years when anything was all right that seemed to yield profit," he replied. "We can do without brownstone mansions, expensive cars and even bank accounts. These are not essential ingredients to happiness. But one thing we must not lose is our vision. And one thing we must not do is permit a moratorium on that ideal of serving others."
