In case you missed it.

Monday, June 30, 2008 program was on Juvenile Diabetes and the 2008 Watermelon Stampede Against Diabetes.  Kim Seligman spoke about her family's connection to juvenile diabetes.  Kim shared with us the heartbreaking story of her son who at the age of 17 passed away due to this disease.  Kim has been the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Liaison for Muscatine since 2005 and has raised over $60,000!  Kim encouraged everyone to get involved in the 2008 Watermelon Stampede Against Diabetes on August 15th & 16th.  Jeff Canfield was introduced by Kim to tell us about Hy-Vee's commitment to helping fight Juvenile Diabetes.   Hy-Vee as a company has raised over $5,000,000 to fund research for Juvenile Diabetes.  Jeff Frye has been closely affected by this disease, as his daughter Jessie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 10.  Lastly, Mark Mather shared with us that the employees at the Vision Center have been collecting funds from their casual dress day to support this important cause.

Welcome Karen Diercks as 2008-2009 President

2007-2008 President Gary Wieskamp introduced Karen Diercks as the clubs President for 2008-2009.  Gary passed on the president's p in and gavel to Karen.

For He's a Jolly Good Fellow.Honoring 2007-2008 President 

Karen presented Gary with the Rotary p laque and p in for his year as club president.  Karen expressed the clubs' gratitude to Gary for his commitment to educating Rotarians about Rotary and for the visibility he has created in the community. 

Club Announcements

    · Gary Wieskamp announced the results of the Rotary survey .  B eginning August 4 the club will hold our meetings at the Ballroom in the Muscatine Hotel.  Gary thanked the Holiday Inn for its service and hospitality. 

    · Gary Wieskamp thanked those who will be joining the Board and expressed appreciation for those coming off the Board.

    · Kelly Garvin has Rotary polo shirts for sale.  I f you are interested please let her know.  The cost for the shirts are now $25 in July.

    · Melanie Alexander encouraged Rotarians to stop by and see the new artifacts that will be arriving at the Muscatine History and Industry Center.

Happy News

Harvey Allbee shared with us he has practiced law for 50 years!  Congratulations Harvey!

Frank Kelly is happy to just be a Rotary member and not have to do the bulletin!  He also shared with us that he and his wife have been married for 17 years! 

Gary Wieskamp has been enjoying watching his grandsons play baseball this summer.

Caren Luke encouraged Rotarians to go see the amazing Project Insect exhibit at the Art Museum.

Mark Mather announced the fundraising efforts the Vision Center has been doing for JDFR.  He also shared with us that he and his wife have been married for 35 years!  Congratulations!
