In Case You Missed It

Our presentation on Monday was given by the staff of Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce on the role of the Chamber in our community.  Bill Phelan kicked off this presentation with providing information on his background and his role at GMCCI.  The Chamber has six staff members and is guided by a Board of Directors.  Staff members Jane Daufeldt, Amanda Landers-Each, Heather Shoppa, and Greg Jenkins shared information on the various activities at GMCCI including member development, community development, economic development, culture and entertainment, and public policy.  To learn more about GMCCI and their efforts in our community please visit their website at www.muscatine.com.

July 20th Club Announcements

  •  Gary Wieskamp is our newest Honorary Paul Harris Fellow.  Mike Ruby shared information about Gary's background and why he was selected to receive this high honor.  Congratulations Gary and Sheryl!
  • Please remember to put a check next to your name when you come to Rotary for attendance tracking.  A sign in sheet will be located next to the badges on the front table.  Thank you!
  • Second reading for membership for proposed members Sean Stewart and Jeff Armstrong.  If you have any concerns about these proposed members please speak to a Board member.
  • Please look at the committee assignment roster at your table to confirm your interest.  If you would like to make a change in the committee you are on please speak with Mary.
  • Our goals for this year are based upon the planning session we held at our regular meeting in early June:

1.  Increase membership in our Rotary Club.

2.  Support and implement meaningful hands on local and worldwide projects.   

3.  Engage our membership through our website and create opportunities for fellowship and networking.

4.  Communicate our club goals and activities to attract new members and share Rotary's worth in Muscatine .

  • August 17th is Rotary Night at Modern Woodman Park.  Please come at 7 p.m. to help raise funds for Polio Plus and enjoy a night at the ballpark.
  • Gladys Reif will be sharing "Branson on the Road" with us... as we partner with the Muscatine Lions for this community fund raising project .
  • Kudos to Scott Ingstad, he volunteered all First National Bank sites as ticket sale points for "Branson on the Road"... Rotary and Lions invest profits in community projects!!  (Muscatine Bridge Tribute Completion etc.)
  • The Song Leaders have been discussing via email this week how to "kick our singing up a notch".  If you have ideas, please share them with the song leaders.
  • Craig Bode needs you! Craig is the new chair for programs and he is looking for monthly program chairs, if you are interested please see him at the meeting or email him at craig.bode@rockvalleypt.com.
  • Rotary Family Picnic is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th at Weed Park's tennis court shelter at 6:00 PM.  We will be having a potluck again this year.  Please mark your calendars!
