Presentation:
Mike Truitt – MHS Football Program

Coach Mike Truitt shared the changes he is making within the Muscatine High School Football program. After spending his first two years largely following what had been done in the past, Coach Truitt is leading a culture change focused not only on football, but on developing leaders and creating a program where players, parents, and the community feel connected.

A major part of that change is the new Player Leadership Academy. Coaches selected four players for the Leadership Council, who then selected four additional players to join them. Modeled after military leadership principles, the academy focuses on lessons including Leaders Eat Last, High Trust, Everything Matters, FAMILY (Forget About Me, I Love You), Comms Check, Bring the Juice, Default: Aggression, and Lead from the Front.

At the center of the program are four core values: Accountability, Attitude, Commitment, and Respect. From changes in leadership structure to smaller details like uniforms and helmet decals, Coach Truitt is working to build not only strong football players, but strong leaders, community members, and young people prepared for life after high school.
