Program for November 25, 2013: University of Iowa Museum of Art

Guests: 3.0 Seniors including: Jordan Buster, Anna Manjoine, Tyler Schley, Zach Sargent, Merve Celik, Marilyn Perez, Fernando Perez, and Mike McGrory High School Principal. Guests: Jane Yin, Stephanie Daniels, Jeanine Simick and Ben Stone.

Announcements: Keith made an announcement letting us know that Polio is on the rise in Syria with 20+ cases being identified.  Chris Steinbach told us that MCSA sent out over 1000 letters in their winterathon fund drive.  Rick Ray also told us that it is Bell Ringing time...with 2 weeks of love coordinated by KWPC, Krieger's and HYVee.

Happy News: Melanie Alexander was pleased that the Festival of Wreath events were successful and that her friends were safe from the tornado yesterday. Judi Holdorf was happy that we have a home town newspaper and that her daughter-in-law's picture was in the paper as the cupcake maker for the Governor's Birthday.  Bob Albee is happy to be the Red Kettle Campaign Chair for the Salvation Army!!

Keith Porter inducted Jerry Riibe and Greg Jenkins as the newest Rotarians. Jerry was sponsored by Mary Wildermuth and Greg by Mary Odell!!

Rotary Program: Melanie Alexander introduced the program and speaker, Ann Rowson Love spoke about the Applied Learning Museum Program of Western Illinois University and located for courses at the Figge.  The program has been in existence since the Fall of 2008. The focus is on teaching individuals through a Master's degree program hands on course work pertaining to museums. 

Ann has led several study abroad trips and students have participated in the International Conference of the Inclusive Museums.  Topics presented in the courses include, matting pictures, framing and hanging art work.

Students exit with a portfolio of work accomplished and have been placed or work in a variety of local and national museums within the state and country.
