Program for May 7, 2012: Muscatine Old Friends...Chinese Vice President Visit

Keith Porter presided over the meeting welcoming us and making an announcement about the Salvation Army Concert on May 12, 2012. Keith also mentioned how nice the 3.0 Banquet was last week and give Kudos to the Planning Committee.

Tom Ward is chairing the International Friendship Exchange from District 5080 in Bristish Columbia now scheduled for September 8-11, 2012. 2 Homestays are still needed so let Tom know if you are interested.

Rotary Guests:  Paulo Meinhardt and Jorge Meinhardt.  Paulo presented his club flag to us and also told that he was a District Governor from 2009-2010. He also told us a bit about his country and invited us all to visit Brazil!!

 

Happy News.... Jim Nepple is proud that the Boy Scouts are a part of the Salvation Army/Food Drive on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Ron Yohe is happy to be out of the hospital from Gall Bladder Surgery and several rounds of radiation treatment. Todd Poci is proud to say that Senior Resources has set up a new endowment fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine. Sal LoBianco is happy to say thank you for the 3.0 luncheon's success and his daughter's scholarship. Carlin Lawhead survived CAPE is glad kids have a safe place to go after Prom. Bob Jensen made another hole in one... this is number 3 for Bob!! John Sleichter is proud that his parents just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Diana Gradert is proud of her grand daughter for running the 4X4 for Coe College at the Drake Relays. Craig Bode is thankful for grace... today that their was a lack of law enforcement, no meter reader and that yes he found his car keys in that last looked at spot!! Keith Porter was happy too that CAPE was fun and safe and oh yes that his son won $1000 from Kreiger Motors!!

Program for Today: Craig Bode introduced Dr. Brad Bark and Brad Hodapp to tell us about the upcoming Midwest Strongman Competition on May 26, 2012 at the Riverfront starting at 11:00 A.M. This will be the second year of the event with hopes that it will be bigger and better than last year's event with 32 competitors. There are 5 events that are sponsored by Muscatine Businesses...axel lift, yoke walk, car deadlift, truck pull and UHaul Pull!! There are men and women events based on weight of items lifted. Brad and Brad gave a brief overview of the event and then showed a video of segments of last year's contest. Food will be available for purchase, however watching is free. Participants pay an entrance fee which will be donated to charity.
