March 26, 2012 Program for Today: Technology in the Muscatine Community School District

March 26 Invocation by: Rick Ray

Rotary Guests: Alex Weaver, Cathy Kramer, Sarah Wilson, Molly Elizalde, Diane Campbell, Emily Smith Outbound Student and Karrie Hawkins.

Rotary Announcements: Mike told us that a milestone has been achieved in the elimination of Polio with no instances of it occuring in India within the last year. It still is evident in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.

Mike also told us that our April 23rd meeting will be held at the Clarion for the 3.0 Senior Luncheon.

Alex Weaver sang our opening song and then invited us to attend the Pearl City Opera Event and Fundraiser at the Muscatine Art Center on Saturday evening, March 24, 2012 at 6:00 P.M.

Happy News: Anna Mack is happy that her son is now employed as a lawyer. Kip Fisher is happy that his picture was in the paper representing Sunnybrook and thought Sara Ingstad and Dick Stanley should chip in too and they did.

Program for Today: Bill Decker told Alex how proud the community is of him and his accomplishments and how lucky we are to have him return to the community. He then introduced Diane Campbell who introduced the program. Kerrie Hawkins told about the many opportunities there are for students in taking courses at MHS and the options available at MCC through Career Academies and other college connection courses.

With much enthusiasm Cathy Kramer spoke about her G2 Chemistry Class and the work her students are doing to develop a Cellulose Ethanol Plant in Berundi.

With equal excitement Sara Wilson spoke about the Project Lead the Way Pre Engineering Courses offered at MHS with 5 classes being offered in this the 6th year of the implementation.

Molly Elizalde praised the community for their great support of the Mentor a Muskie Program. 51 seniors will be participating in daily intern experiences from April 16 - May 4th in a myriad of local businesses and nonprofits.
