Rotary News: Mike talked about the six areas that are Rotary's main focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution; Disease prevention and treatment; Water and sanitation; Maternal and child health; Basic education and literacy; and Economic and community development. Mike shared that Sara Ingstad has agreed to take Caren Luke's place as club secretary and will be continuing her membership.

 

Mike shared that Mayor Hopkins would be re-joining the club and held the first membership reading for Greg Mandsager, City Administrator.

Ball tickets are on sale at the back table for $7 per person. $5 goes towards the game and $3 towards polio plus. Also for sale are Bandit Bucks to use to purchase concessions at the game. Twenty five cents of the bandit bucks gets donated back for Polio Plus. These are available today and next Monday only.

Kelly Garvin made a request on behalf of Keith Porter. The club is in need of a chair and co chair for the PR committee. Also, members are needed for the new "fun" committee. If you are interested please let Kelly or Keith know.

Happy News: Rick Ray announced that the Salvation Army summer day camp is full with a wait list of 30. Paul Kraushaar attended his 48th class reunion. Dave and Jeanie Stanley trained at the world taxpayers association and learned quite a lot. Norm and Marilyn Smith just returned from Phoenix where it was 110 degrees. Dawn Sturms Dodds daughter placed 2nd in the little miss Iowa competition. Kip Fischer relayed that he rode a motorcycle once and swore if he got out alive he'd never ride one again in response to Mike's request for scholarship money for the motorcycle group that was at the Button Factory. Diana Gradert is proud of her granddaughter. Harvey Allbee is proud of his twin grandsons who are moving on to big things.

Mike went on to ask us to be cognizant of what people are doing and contribute to the stability of our community. He talked about the state legislature and what recent and upcoming changes will mean to Muscatine county.
