Program: Andrew Fangman, the City of Muscatine's City Planner presented the updated Comprehensive Plan. The former plan was developed in 2002.  Copies of the plan were placed at the back table for Rotarians interested in copies.  Major areas included in the plan are: transportation, parks and recreation, economic development, land use, community character/quality of life.  Included in transportation are features amenable to a Blue Zone Community including friendly streets and sidewalks, as well as, a comprehensive trail system, a major feature of the parks component is the addition of a Dog Park. Persons interested in this should meet on May 8th at 6PM at city hall. In the area of economic development of the 15 goals one is the recruitment of individuals who work in Muscatine to actually live in Muscatine. In regard to land use... ordinances are being updated and we are codifying what a neighborhood should be.  Finally in regard to community character we are looking at a master community image plan including attractive streets and gateway features.  Cultural institutions such as the Muscatine Art Center and Musser Public Library are part of the overall community landscape as vital to a vibrant Muscatine.
