Online Participation: Thank you, Jim Stein, for joining our meeting via Zoom. We continue to offer a hybrid meeting each week. Members are invited to attend via zoom or watch the recorded presentation anytime they need to.
 
Happy News/Announcements:  All Happy News funds go towards our scholarship awards.
Rob Yant- Rob missed the last meeting to enjoy a newly acquired camping spot, which resulted in a swap for a new Camper. Rob also had an excellent time at his wife’s reunion over the weekend. John Kuhl- John enjoyed visiting the East Coast to see his daughter at school. John invited everyone to the Rotary Foundation dinner here in Muscatine at the Rendezvous on Friday, Oct 28th. John has been asked to be a featured speaker for the event. Holly Peterson- Holly had such a good time at her reunion over the weekend that she lost her voice. The event held a successful silent auction that will support 3 organizations in Muscatine. Megan Francis- Rockin’ on 2nd Street is this Saturday. The Crossroads Kick-Off Carnival will start at 1 pm. The opening band, Winterland, starts at 2:30 pm. GMCCI is hosting the 2nd Annual Vintage Market on the River Front beginning at 10 am. Spend the day downtown with the Vintage Market and Rockin’ on 2nd Street.
 
Club News:
  • Quarterly Dues will be sent today. Remember that this quarter will include the $100 suggested Paul Harris donation. Our club has always shown tremendous support for Paul Harris giving. Please consider including this additional giving when paying your dues.
  • Follow the Rotary Club of Muscatine’s Facebook page, @MuscatineRotaryClub.
  • The District Dinner will be hosted in Muscatine for the first time on Friday, October 28th. We are looking for 2 volunteers to assist with check-in for the event.
  • RAGAS Grant Update: Paul Pate will present on October 17th, focusing on STOP Human Trafficking. Everyone in our community should know the signs of Human Trafficking and how to report suspicious actions. Local businesses need to register and help spread this information throughout our community. Please view the information about https://ibat.iowa.gov/ and register your business.
  • Service Event- Friday, October 7th, the City of Muscatine asked for assistance planting trees from their next Forestry grant. We are looking for 8-10 volunteers to help with the project. Contact Megan Francis at mfrancis@crossraodsmuscatine.org to get involved.
  • Update: Ukraine families in Muscatine. The First Ukraine family is staying with Dan Stein. The community response to requests for clothing and household items has been overwhelming. With donations, the home supply checklist was completed. The has twin girls who reported a wonderful experience during their first days at Susan Clark Middle School. Another family is moving to Muscatine on October 4th, with plans for a 3rd family in the coming months.

Presentation:
Joy Dobson- Junior Achievement
Core purpose: To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Three “pillars” or prime focus areas are Work Readiness, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Literacy. JA of the Heartland covers 24 counties with a goal to reach 50,000 students. Muscatine JA is in 105 classrooms across 15 schools, reaching 2,200 students. Join us for the Boos and Bites fundraising event at the Merrill hostel on October 20th.
