Happy News/Announcements:  A Reminder the funds from Happy News go towards our scholarships.
Kim Warren- $10 in honor of Nichole Sorgenfrey from United Way- she is moving back into hospitality field- going away party at Wine Nuts Thursday at 4pm, Join Us. $20 for the 20+ kids going to State this weekend with the YMCA Manta Rays Swim Team- one of them being Kim’s son. Micah Colbert- Announced he will be presenting at EntreFEST, also asked to help promote the event.  Excited for the opportunity. Frank Iliff- While doing food pick up Friday for Food Rescue had a fall on ice.  Doing ok and appreciative for everyone who helped him. Erika Cox- Thankful to community members who reached out to MPW and to programmers for lighting the bridge is support of the Ukraine. Lindsey Phillips- Bowl for Kids Sake- Last Day early registration, and she has a son turning 10 today. Megan Francis- Daughter enjoyed the Muskie Pom Clinic Fundraiser- 115 kids signed up so the clinic was moved to the High School so Megan decided go the opportunity to step in as a timer and volunteer for the Special Olympics Swim Meet.  It was a great Event.

  • Rotary would like to have a Bowling Team for Bowl for Kid’s Sake on March 26th at 2pm.  John Kuhl and Megan Francis have committed to bowling so we will need 1 or 4 more players to fill the team.  You do not have to be a good bowler to participate.  Contact Megan to join our team- mfrancis@muscatinevision2020.org. 
Club Announcement:
  • We are happy to offer a Hybrid option for meetings allowing members who are not able to join us in person to take part in the meeting.  Note the Zoom Link remains the same each week, if you can not find the most recent email containing the link any past email will work.  Please reach out to John or a board member if you ever have trouble signing in online.
  • John Kuhl presented at the District Grant Seminar this past weekend to share about our Heart Rate Monitor Grant.  John’s presence at the seminar will allow our club to apply for a grant this year so if any club members have an idea or know of a community need please reach out to the board.  
Reminder:
  • A few weeks ago Mike Ruby extended a challenge to match up to $500 in donations made to Rebuild Together Muscatine County.  Current donations amount to $200.  You can make a donation to Rebuild Together through our club or report an individual donation to the club and we will track the donations and report when the match is met.

Iowa City AM Rotarian- Mark Patton-
            Mark grew up in Manchester, he has two degrees from Iowa State University. Directed Non- Profits for 35 years including MCSA, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity. Mark is a member and past president of the Iowa City AM Rotary Club. Mark is married and has two kids and lives on a farm near Wilton.
 
Aftermath of the Kentucky Tornados-
            Killer Tornado rips through 5 state region, killing 90 (Dec 10-11, 2021) “A Story of dramatic climatic change” Tornado affected numerous states and traveled over 200 miles. 165 miles inside Kentucky; also in Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee, Missouri.  At least 3 major EF4 tornadoes at one time, more than 30 tornadoes altogether. More than 15,000 buildings damaged or destroyed. Estimated damages: $3.5 billion. Insurances will pay for 1 Billion, leaving 2.5 Billion left. Imagine everything from Wapello to Walcott being completely torn apart.
Pictures and Video of the destruction. Picture tin and destruction everywhere you look. Mayfield and other tornado ravaged communities may undergo 5 years of rebuilding and grief. How do we work for a better future for our grandchildren?  Do we care enough to sacrifice today for a better tomorrow?
