Recap from the November 4, 2019 Club Meeting: 
Visitors:  Gregs Thomopulos and Bader Al-Salman were guests of Jim Nepple.  Gretchen Nollman - President of West Liberty Rotary Club visited us as well.  Bill Koellner, our Assistant District Governor from West Liberty Club was with us.  And Erna and Steve Morain - Erna is our District 6000 Governor. 
 
Happy News:  Jessica Wittman was happy that her sister's wedding went perfectly.  Mary Wildermuth encouraged us all to vote tomorrow.  Megan Francis rang the cowbell for Salvation Army stepping up to host Halloween indoors due to the cold weather.  Melanie Alexander informed us of events at the Art Center - Ornament competition from Nov 15- Dec 15, Photographs on Childhood by Oscar Grossheim November to January.  Greg Bock thanked everyone that helped support indoor trick or treating at the Salvation Army - had over 500 kids show.  Greg also let us know that Hoffman Corp. has agreed to build an 8 foot tall, 2000 pound Red Kettle for the Salvation Army.  Mike Ruby was very happy to announce that after a 13 month battle, his daughter, Ellen is clear of all cancer.  Mike also put out a plea for help to find the Rotary bike rack that was on the corner of Iowa Ave and Mississippi Drive, it is assumed that it was taken down during construction.  Holly Thomas-Koehler watched her friend run a half marathon in Des Moines.  This inspired Holly to want to run one next year. 
 
Program:  Our program was Erna Morain, our District 6000 Governor.  Erna is originally from Amsterdam, she moved to the United States in 1983, settled in Des Moines, IA and currently lives in Waukee, IA and is a member of Waukee's Rotary Club.  Erna has ridden in RAGBRAI 15 times.  In 2006 she was invited by a friend to come to Rotary as a guest and Erna joined the Waukee club.  Erna loves Rotary because it makes her feel good.  We need to grow Rotary.  We need to increase our presence on social media, get the word out to everyone.  Erna shared with us what Rotary means to her and her  theme as District Governor - Food insecurity.   Save the date for the Rotary District 6000 Festival 2020 - June 25-27 at Prairie Medows Event Center in Altoona, IA.    Thank you  Erna. 
 
Club Business:  Holly Thomas-Koehler shared with us floral displays for our fundraiser.  Small is $20, with $5 going to club.  Medium is $45, with $15 going to club.  Large is $75, with $25 going to club.  Please have your orders in by November 25.  Arrangements will be available for pick up at the December 16th Rotary meeting.    Frank Iliff - shared the history of Veteran's Day and what it means to him.  Veteran's Day is Monday, November 11, 2019. 
 
Reminder:  there will NOT be a Rotary meeting on Monday, November 11, 2019 - in observance of Veteran's Day. 
 
Our next Rotary meeting will be Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Rendezvous at noon.
