Happy News:   Bonnie Nichols was a guest of Melanie AlexanderMegan Francis invited all to come to the Butterfly Garden Workshop on Thursday.  Mike Ruby was expressing what all were thinking...how great it was for Erika to participate in a National Immunization Day in India!!  Rick Gosney provided an update on the March Madness Drawing.  Potential new members Steven Bradford and Dana Miller were welcomed and introduced.
 
Program: Melanie Alexander introduced Susan Horan from the Stanley Museum of Art. She provided an interesting history of the importance of art to the University and to Iowa.  The museum opened in 1969/  The Roy and Lucille Carver Wing was added and opened in 1976.  Max and Betty Stanley gave their African Art Collection to the museum in 1985.  Their collection is used as a textbook/website for students around the world.  The flood of 2008 affected the operation of the museum and caused the relocation of the collection to the Figge Art Gallery in Davenport.  Mary Jo and Dick Stanley gave $10 million to the museum for the building of a new facility to be named the Stanley Museum of Art.  It is to be located at Front an Burlington Streets in Iowa City and will be 63,000 square feet.  Persons wanting to contribute to the Capital Campaign can do so  at My Museum at www.foriowa.org.  Muscatine obviously has played a significant role in the world of art in Iowa City, in Iowa and the world!!
