Diana Gradert: The Herbert Hoover Museum is reopening this Thursday, August 6, after an exciting renovation. The grand reopening ceremony will start at 1pm. If you can’t make it Thursday, plan a visit soon.
Rich Dwyer: Another successful Squincher Triathlon. It was a great turnout despite the nasty weather. Athletes come from all over to participate. It is an extraordinary display of athleticism. The kids even got into the action this year at the first Splash and Dash kids event.
Lindsey Phillips: paying off an IOU, and wishing TEAM a happy 40th anniversary.
Voluntell: Volunteer Hours & Opportunities
Volunteer Hours Reported:
- Mike Wedell – 2 hours volunteering with genealogy research at the library.
- Cheri Linderman- 14 hours total- Volunteered at the Reaching Out event to support NAMI, drove the Golf Cart two days for Great River Days, and donated clothes to The Bridge.
- Adrianne Towe- 5 hours volunteering at Great River Days, driving a golf cart.
- Lindsey Phillips- 2 hours participating in the MHS safety drill today.
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:
- School will be back in session at the end of the month. Become a Mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters- Contact Lindsey for more information.
- Rotary Readers project coming- We are putting together plans for a school-based Rotary Readers program. We will be recruiting 4 volunteers each week who will each spend 30 minutes reading to elementary age children. More information and sign-ups coming soon.
Club Business:
- Service Project: Fall Hwy cleanup is set for October 9.

Iowa State Extension Office
Our presentation this week featured Cassi Chapman, 4-H Program Coordinator, and Lauren Nerad, Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Coordinator with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. They shared an overview of Extension's four focus areas: 4-H and Youth Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health and Human Sciences, and Community and Economic Development.
4-H is much more than the county fair. Youth in grades 4-12, along with Clover Kids in kindergarten through third grade, participate in year-round, hands-on learning that builds leadership, confidence, and life skills through projects ranging from agriculture and STEM to photography, art, baking, and community service. While the county fair is often the most visible part of 4-H, it serves as a showcase of the projects and skills students have developed throughout the year.
Cassi and Lauren also encouraged Rotarians to support the program by volunteering and investing in the next generation of community leaders.
